Plums
Growing your own sun-ripened, juicy fruits is so rewarding—and plum trees are a favorite for many home gardeners. Plums, as well as plumcots and nectarines, are stone fruits. When selecting a plum tree to buy, first make sure the variety will grow in your grow zone or hardiness zone. All plum trees perform best and produce the most fruit when planted in full sun, or six or more hours of direct sunlight daily. Some plum tree varieties, like the Stanley Plum, are self-pollinating, while other plum trees require another variety for pollination. Plum trees are available in standard and dwarf size. Standard trees generally produce more fruit while dwarf trees take up less space and are easier to manage.
