Watermelon
A summertime treat, watermelons are favorites for snacking and cutting up for fruit salads. A popular vine crop, watermelons are available in seeded and seedless varieties. If planting a seedless variety, a seeded watermelon variety should be planted for proper pollination. Watermelons may be "personal" sized, or 5 lbs., to picnic sized, weighing 40 lbs. and large enough to feed a crowd. Watermelon vines grow best in full sun and in well-drained soil. When considering what's the best watermelon to grow in the home garden, consider the fruit size, flavor, seeded or seedless, yields, disease resistance of the plants, and days until maturity.
