I have branches!
May 15, 2022 | By April Koontz

Roots were a little dry upon arrival. I soaked the roots for about 24 hours and planted. Watered 2x a day for about a week then every rainless day. Tree is looking good! Almost all grafting nubs have sprouted. Looking forward to seeing what it produces.
Tree received.

I received my fruit cocktail tree, stem with grafted buds. It is dormant. I immediatley put in water and will update when the tree puts out leaves.
Two Years and No Bloom
May 7, 2022 | By LORI E TAYLOR

I planted my 'Twig' two years ago and even though it is thriving; it's grown considerably and looks great leaf-wise, there still hasn't been the first bloom on it. I wonder, how long does it take to bloom and bear the first fruit for the first time?
Be prepared to wait for years...

Our first tree did not bud or thrive and we returned it for a replacement, which was handled well by Burgess and I have no complaint about their customer service.
The second tree took root and grew, but it's been about 4 years in zone 8 and we're only now seeing a few flowers on the peach side... nothing but leaves on the other branches. I understand this type of grafted tree can be a problem to maintain, and read that one fruit will dominate and steal nutrients from the other areas, so it may be a nice concept, but in reality, I'd say expect low performance out of a high maintenance plant. You won't likely get 5 different types of fruit, which may explain why there is a drawing of the tree posted in the catalog and not a picture of a tree in full production mode. Prune it regularly to give any fruit that does show up plenty of room to develop. Water deeply 1x/week, but keep ground moist in hottest days of Summer. fertilize 3x/yr
Less Than I Expected
Apr 28, 2022 | By Laura Seymer

I expected to get a small tree with six tiny branches. I got a dormant, bare root 2 1/2 ft stick with six barely visible buds grafted on. After two weeks I now have a leaf sprout from 2 buds. One bud appears dead. There is still hope for the other 3. But I wouldn't buy it again.
Fruity science

I planted this bizarre tree recently. I ordered 2 of these and when they were delivered to me I was quick to plant.
When you order this tree expect a 'dormant stick' with roots. In order to survive the shipping process, the nursery puts these trees in a deep sleep. Up until now, 5 stars. If it never grows, I'll update accordingly.
Fruit Cocktail tree

i also recently received my fruit cocktail tree, and it's the same as the other review here. they grafted but cut them off. so far it has sprouted 2 of the 6 grafts. i soaked it in water for 4 hours first then planted right away in a protected sunny spot. it has lots of lower sucker looking sprouts near the bottom that will have to be removed, and none of the rest of the grafts are sprouting. i will keep babying it and see if more grafts become active. if not i will be asking for a replacement tree that is actively growing 6 out of 6 grafts like this company said it would.
Incredibly small grafts, not even twigs
Apr 5, 2022 | By Elizabeth

I received a very small tree today (I wasn't expecting something large) but the grafts of other fruit trees were nearly invisible. They simple cut off a growth bud and added a bud of (what I am assuming was) the other tree type. Nothing was labeled. It also arrived without anything to keep its roots even remotely moist, it was in a plastic bag with some blown up plastic cushions to keep it somewhat steady in its box. Some roots were damaged but it looks salvageable. I planted this immediately and am hoping for the best. It passed the scratch test and is still green and living though dormant.
