Shellbark Hickory Tree

Shellbark Hickory Tree

The Shellbark Hickory makes a statement in the landscape. Growing 60-80 ft. tall with a narrow, rounded crown, it's a very tall, ornamental shade tree that's ideal for larger landscapes. Its foliage turns an attractive yellow to golden brown in the fall. As the tree matures, it develops exfoliating bark. A native to the United States, the Shellbark Hickory Tree grows best in medium to wet soils. It produces thin-shelled nuts that split on their own when fully ripe, with a flavor similar to pecans. Plant two Shellbark Hickory trees for pollination. Zones 4-8.
