I bought a summer snow gardenia from Burgess and it lived for 3 years up here outside. The ironic part was that, the snails ended up killing the plant, & that occurred quickly. Just watch out for pests & disease, Especially if growing in a colder zone with a shorter growing season. Using straw/hay around the plant in winter is sufficient enough for protection with 3-4" of bark mulch, in a Well Draining, full sun spot. I'd highly recommend this plant for people who love gardenias up north to zone 6, that don't have luck keeping tropical ones inside during the winter.
